2023 KARTHÄUSER | Tesch Riesling trocken
“What a radical riesling and what radical freshness. The soul of the samurai sword and the brilliant shine of its blade. Very sleek and focused on the medium-bodied palate, but this is the simplistic side of the wine’s description. Extremely long finish that ends in an excitingly sharp point. Drink or hold.”97 Punkte | jamessuckling.com | S. Pigott
“The 2023 Riesling Trocken Laubenheimer Karthäuser is deep, pure and refined but impressively intense and aromatic on the beautifully balanced and distinctive nose that intermingles concentrated, ripe fruit aromas with finely weathered terroir notes from red sandstone. Accordingly generous and juicy yet always fine and crystalline on the palate, this is a mouth-filling, as if not fully dry, yet very elegant and generous Riesling that is reminiscent of certain Saar Rieslings or those from Nackenheim (Rheinhessen). In fact, the Karthäuser was bottled with “just three or four grams per liter of residual sugar,” as Martin Tesch reports on the phone. It is a complete, sensual and silky-textured Riesling with generous fruit and an exceptionally long and intense finish. This wine is made to surprise, and perhaps with 2021(?), it is on the highest level Martin (or better: his son Johannes) Tesch has reached so far. 13% stated alcohol. Stelvin screw cap. Tasted in September 2024.”

“Tropical notes in this wine with a rich texture but light on the palate. This wine is very open already but still should improve. Screw cap closure. 13.0% stated alcohol.”

“Full screwcapped bottle just 1,162g. From a south-west-facing amphitheatre of weathered sandstone. Maroon capsule. Brooding nose that’s still developing. Restrained aromatically but with a great weight and extract on the palate. Still a little chewy but all the ingredients are there for a very interesting future. Exciting peacock’s tail of flavours on the finish. Very definitely a food wine.“

11,5% Alkohol.” 93/A | C. Kolm | TheFineWineReview
2021 KARTHÄUSER | Tesch Riesling trocken
“Tesch’s Laubenheim 2021 Riesling Karthäuser offers a deep and intense but also refined and elegant nose with ripe and concentrated fruit aromas and very fine phenolic notes. Crystalline, lush and very elegant on the palate, this is a supple and rich but elegant and refined Karthäuser with enormously dense and intense fruit and a spectacularly long, intense, structured and sustainably saline finish. From old vines picked at the end of the harvest when the nights were already significantly cool, this Riesling fermented for almost half a year.
Schraubverschluss. 13,0% Alkohol.” 93+/A | C. Der 2021er – Ein ganz klassischer Riesling
The 2020 Riesling Karthäuser is discreet and fine on the clear and elegant nose, which reveals a ripe and slightly flinty-scented bouquet of ripe, red apples with notes of crushed (sand) stones. Dense and concentrated on the palate, this is a stunningly rich yet still elegant, fine and structured Karthäuser with fine tannins and a certain phenol reduction that asks for more aeration. This is an impressive terroir wine with a long and salty finish. Very promising. 12.5% alcohol.93 | robertparker.com – The Wine Advocate – Stephan Reinhardt
A whole hillside of wild herbs and flowers burst from this diamond-bright dry riesling. So precise and pure, a straight line shooting into the core of the crystal. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
94 | jamessuckling.com – Stuart Pigott
The nose here is spicy with white pepper, and a dusty/powdered aspect to the red fruits. The mouth has brilliant, penetrating acidity, and it is round and chewy with red fruits. The acidity makes this wine mouthwatering and there is very good energy, a noble austerity, and relative fullness of body.
94+/A | TheFineWineReview – Claude Kolm
Intriguing nose with headily floral notes and really quite rich on the palate but tightened up on the end. Big enough to drink with food. Delicious already but probably not for the very long term.

2019 KARTHÄUSER | Tesch Riesling trocken
From weathered red sandstone in a warm, southwest-facing vineyard, the 2019 Riesling Karthäuser is beautifully clear, ripe, intense and pure on the complex, terroir-driven nose with its smoky, white fruit aromas and notes of milled stones. Round and piquant on the palate, this is an intense, tight, complex and persistent dry Riesling. It reveals the complex and structured terroir expression that makes the Laubenheimer Karthäuser an outstanding wine almost every year. Tasted as a sample in May and then from bottle in June 2020.93 | robertparker.com – The Wine Advocate – Stephan Reinhardt
Drop everything now, because this is oh so serious, but oh so exciting. At once warm and cool, mouthwatering and ripe with a very long, complex herb and mineral finale. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Really quite exotic and intense on the nose already. A veritable bouquet of scented lilies. Lovely already and verging on opulent. A real charmer with notes of lime syrup, though a bone-dry finish.

2018 KARTHÄUSER | Tesch Riesling trocken
From warm, early-ripening terroir, Tesch’s 2018 Karthäuser Riesling Trocken offers a clear and bright bouquet with intense and ripe fruit aromas but also a distinctive purity and coolish character. Fullbodied and juicy yet fresh and precise, this is a powerful but also well-structured and sustainable dry Riesling cultivated on weathered red sandstone soils. The wine reveals enormous mineral vitality and tension on the sustainable finish, but it also doesn’t deny the sunny vintage. “That’s what we are looking for,” says Martin Tesch. “The vintage is part of the terroir, and I want to smell and sniff the vintage still in ten years from this wine.” He will. Tasted from AP 12 19 in August 2019.92 | robertparker.com – The Wine Advocate – Stephan Reinhardt
Tesch’s Laubenheimer Karthäuser is from weathered red sandstone soils. It shows some spice to strawberry and citric fruits, a medium-weight body, good freshness, and notable raciness. Last digits of A.P. Nr. 12 19. 12.5% stated alcohol.
92/A | THE FINE WINE REVIEW – Claude Kolm
The maroon one, grown on a weathered sandstone south-west-facing amphitheatre that’s a little suntrap. The first vineyard to be picked. Fairly broad and rich with a certain graininess of texture and slightly less obvious acidity than some of its stablemates. There’s a little meatiness to this particular Riesling. Distinctive. 12.5% | Drink 2019 – 2025

2017 KARTHÄUSER | Tesch Riesling trocken
From a well-protected, southwest-facing vineyard on weathered red sandstone, the early-ripening 2017 Karthäuser Riesling Trocken is very clear and fresh on the deep and intense, complex and wellconcentrated yet precise and spicy, herbal/floral and lemon-scented bouquet with its discreet flinty notes. Full-bodied and round but also pure, fresh and mineral on the palate, this is a complex and pretty powerful dry Riesling with a long and structured, powerful and sustainable finish that also reveals some fine but firm tannins and good acidity. An impressive, terroir-driven and age-worthy Riesling that needs pork rather than just fish as a pairing partner. Tasted two times in July and August 2019 (AP 08 18). Drinking Date 2022 -204092 | robertparker.com – The Wine Advocate – Stephan Reinhardt
Needs some aeration for the wild berries to enrich the intensely herbal bouquet, but there’s already a ton of white peaches on the palate and mineral acidity that energizes this tightly wrapped package. Dramatic and austere finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
93 | jamessuckling.com – Stuart Pigott
Amphitheatre of weathered sandstone facing south west retains warmth and its grapes are the first to ripen. Broad, earthy nose with immediate appeal on the nose and then very pronounced acidity. Very much a game of two halves, this wine. I’d wait until next year before broaching it to see how the nose and palate integrate. Really vibrant on the palate but the acidity dominates for now. Drink: 2019-2024.
